The Great Grey Shrike is extinct in the Netherlands as breeding bird and as so placed on the Red List of endangered birds of the Netherlands. Fortunate in the winter still some birds from Scandinavia are wintering in the Netherlands. Most of them are found on the large Heather fields and moors but some you can find in the river forelands and even agraric land. The photos of the Shrike in this gallery are all from one single bird which I followed for two winters in a row. I visited him every day and so he gets completely comfortable with me. This way it's possible to observe and capture his normal behavior.
